Top Five: Selfridges Sale Steals

Does anyone else find that they develop a slightly obsession to sale shopping at this time of the year? I get a weird pleasure out of finding beautiful pieces at ridiculously reasonable prices. Selfridges is one of my favourite places to go sale shopping, in the past I’ve managed to snap up a bright pink backless mohair dress by Sibling for £40, the original retail price was over £400! Although it’s bright pink, it was a real investment purchase due to the cut and the luxe mohair and I still wear it 4 years. That’s the mark of a true sale steal; a timeless piece you’ll keep in your wardrobe for years to come.

The best bargains are always found in store, but it’s so much more convenient to shop online so I’ve rounded up my favourite investment buys from Selfridges just for you:



  1. Reiss Xeni velvet dress – was £150, now £75
    While velvet was a huge trend for AW16, I think it’s a pretty staple fabric so you’ll be able to wear it for years to come. This dress has a gorgeous midnight blue hue – my favourite colour – and a very simple, flattering cut. The simple lines of the dress are accentuated with the asymmetric neckline, a tiny detail which has a big impact on how this dress looks.
  2. Jimmy Choo Daphne platforms – was £620, now £375
    I’ve got a confession, I love Jimmy Choo shoes. I ‘accidentally’ bought myself two pairs while I was supposed to be Christmas shopping last month, whoops! I love these platforms, which have a sturdy block heel, secure ankle strap and intricate whipstitch detailing. A stunning, classic shoe.
  3. MAC Nutcracker sweet matte lipstick – was £17, now £11.50
    This may be a controversial statement but I think MAC’s limited edition collections have the best shades. I have a roster of staple lipsticks (Twig, Russian Red and Diva, since you asked), but the limited collections are SO covetable and usually sell out super quickly. I love the classic ‘So good for you’ red from the Nutcracker Sweet collection.
  4. Valentino ruffle neck jumper – was £1,000, now £295 
    This jumper is an absolute steal! And a gorgeous piece to add to your wardrobe. A pretty, timeless, neutral shade which is spiced up with a subtle ruffle, cable motif and metallic thread to keep it cute, this jumper would look great layered over a dress or simply worn with jeans and court shoes.
  5. MAC Nutcracker Sweet essential brush kit – was £45, now £31.50 
    From the same collection as the gorgeous ‘So good for you’ lipstick above, I also spied this pretty brush kit on sale. It includes the face blender brush, blending brush and small angle brush in a bold pouch. May your contour be perfectly blended throughout 2017!

Top Five: Selfridges Summer Sale Steals


Ah, late June. My favourite time of the year. The weather is hotting up and the the sales are all going into further reductions. Just this morning, Selfridges reduced their sale prices even further. While they aren’t advertising a specific percentage off, unlike Harvey Nichols who are now at 60% off, there are some great savings to be had. I’ve trawled through the sale and put together the hottest pieces that you need to snap up now before they’re gone. 

  1. Chinti & Parker pom pom cashmere sweater - £75 from £350Snapping up knitwear in the summer sales can be a very savvy investment, particularly if you’re buying premium wool like cashmere at a huge discount. Pom poms are one of the biggest micro trends and sure to continue into the autumn/winter season.
  2. Alexander McQueen ruffled silk-crepe maxi skirt - £295 from £1,995At a whopping 85% off, this Alexander McQueen skirt is a beautiful bargain. Even at the biannual sample sale, you’d be hard pressed to find pieces that were 85% off and in pristine condition. A no-brainer for black tie events, I would also dress it down with a plain tee and simple heels.
  3. Self Portrait off white knit midi dress - £50 from £295Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Self Portrait is one of the most covetable brands on the planet. Though best known for their lace-detailed occasion dresses, their daywear is also top notch.  The off-the-shoulder trend is set to carry over into autumn/winter so this is a very savvy sale buy.
  4. Stella McCartney faux fur gilet - £150 from £965Ideal for layering up in the colder months with the added benefit of being cruelty-free, I’m utterly obsessed with this gilet. I haven’t found many decent faux fur iterations of the classic fur gilet in my travels, let alone that looks so luxe. Also available in a cream colour.
  5. True Religion Halle motorcycle jeans - £50 from £270I can’t possibly do a sale bargain round up without including a pair of jeans, premium denim is such a great investment as it lasts years. I love the super sexy skinny silhouette of these jeans, the slightly cropped length and the ankle zips.

Star Wars: Fashion Finds The Force


Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending a very special launch at the Old Selfridges Hotel. Though I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, I was so stoked to attend the Fashion Finds The Force collection unveiling. It seems like I wasn't the only one, there was a buzz of anticipation in the air from the fash pack, who are usually a little too cool for school. 

The presentation began with dimmed lights and hushed silence before music started blaring and none other than R2-D2 and C3PO emerged! Admittedly, I've never seen a Star Wars film but the characters, music and imagery are so iconic it's impossible not to recognise them. The stage was then invaded by an army of stormtroopers, securing the perimeter and ensuring the crowd was kept in check. The atmosphere was electric, I've never experienced a presentation this intense.


After the stormtroopers exited stage left, the real fashion began. Twenty models filed into the secured area, each dressed in a limited edition look head-to-toe. Ten leading British designers took part in the Fashion Finds The Force collaboration, each designing 2 looks inspired by the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens film. The designers involved spanned across womenswear and menswear, representing the most exciting emerging talent from the UK, including Agi & Sam, Bobby Abley, Christopher Raeburn, Claire Barrow, J. W. Anderson, Nazir Mazhar, Peter Pilotto, Phoebe English, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi and Thomas Tait. 

Though each designer had the same brief, the resulting pieces were so unique. Each designer took slightly different references from the popular film franchise; Peter Pilotto were inspired by the movement of the Millennium Falcon resulting in geometric appliqué and asymmetric hems whereas Thomas Tait was inspired by natural environments and landscapes resulting in beautifully simple pieces. 


My favourite pieces were both by Claire Barrow, who was inspired by C-3PO and Captain Phasma. The silver hooded dress was designed to look like a shiny surface reflecting Stormtroopers stood in front of Captain Phasma, listening to her orders while a stunning Swarovski crystal encrusted bodysuit was inspired by the Millennium Falcon going lightspeed into hyperspace. 


Each one of piece is up for auction, with the proceeds going towards Great Ormond Street hospital. A range of sweatshirts and tshirts by each designer are available to purchase at Selfridges.

Introducing L'Agent from Agent Provocateur

I don't think it's a secret that I love luxury lingerie brand Agent Provocateur, my obsession grew about 10 fold after attending the Autumn/Winter 2012 blogger event in the Soho Store last August. Back then, I saw the AW12 campaign images starring the utterly flawless Monica Cruz and thought she was a perfect fit for the brand. It seems as though I'm not the only one, Creative Director Sarah Shotton has been working with Monica and Penelope Cruz on the exclusive diffusion line L'Agent, with the Cruz sisters being heavily involved in all aspects of the collection from the design of the labels and hangers to sourcing vintage fabrics for inspiration. The 15-piece collection includes a selection of bras, briefs and corsets and is the first collection of a five-year partnership between the Cruz sisters and Agent Provocateur.

Like the collaboration, the campaign video was also a family affair with Penelope Cruz writing and directing, brother Eduardo creating the soundtrack and mother Encarna helping with the hair. The video stars Spanish actor Miguel Angel and Russian model Irina Shayk.

Selfridges Denim Studio

A couple of weeks ago, I popped into the Old Selfridges Hotel to witness a fashion first - the world's first co-created fashion campaign. Selfridges invited myself and 299 other fashionistas along to not only to watch the campaign being shot by Tom Craig, but to shoot and contribute to the campaign too. All eyes were on Jourdan Dunn and Rosie Tapner being shot in a live studio. The atmosphere was pretty electric, the whole concept was incredibly engaging and best of all, super fun. 



The shoot and campaign celebrated the launch of Selfridges' new Denim Studio. The biggest investment into one department ever, the Denim Studio features over 11.000 pairs of jeans from 60 different brands, making it a true haven for denim divas. As an ex denim aficionado  it's really impressive to see a department store really take denim seriously. Heritage brands such as Levi's and Lee sit alongside contemporary brands such as J Brand and Paige, a more than comprehensive collection which extends beyond the denim style du jour to offer something for everyone. The best part of the new department is the personal shopping and on-site tailoring service, meaning that you'll be guided to the perfect pair of jeans and they will fit like an absolute glove. What's not to love?!

Objet de lust - Ciate mini mani advent calendar


Have you heard of the "lipstick effect"? It's an theory that consumers are more willing to buy less costly luxury goods in times of an economic crisis. The science behind the theory is two fold: firstly women are after a little affordable pick-me-up and secondly we are trying to make ourselves more attractive to a potential mate - simple evolutionary psychology. Now, I hate to argue with economists but I think they're slightly off. Nails are the new lipstick and I'm pretty sure we're spending so long perfecting nail art designs for our own pleasure and amusement!


One of the most talked about nail companies to emerge in the last couple of years is Ciate. Their caviar manicure polish, which features colourful microbeads, practically caused a stampede at Selfridges. This season, they're bringing out a an incredible velvet manicure. I'm not sure how they do it but the nail polish dries to leave a little furry slick of colour on your nails! Texture is the new nail art. For Christmas, they've bought out a gorgeous little Ciate advent calendar which features 17 bestselling mini Paint Pots, 4 mini Caviar blends and 3 exclusive Paint Pot glitter shades which won't be available anywhere else, ever. Santa, are you taking notes?!

Wednesday Wish List: Forever bags

A couple of weeks ago, I went for icecream with my friend Bella and she was telling me how she wanted to guy a "forever bag". She explained that she had lots of bags but not a wow, cherish for eternity bag. Though I'd never thought of it in that way, I realised it was true. My everyday bag is a Michael Kors and I also have bags by Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang which I love, but a forever bag is so much more than that - think Givenchy or Celine. A bag that you stalk in the store for months while you save up and stroke lovingly whenever you come to visit it. The type of bag which you store in it's dust bag when you're not using it so you keep it in pristine condition. Bella and I are now on an obsessive mission to find our own "forever bags", it's a tough choice as this bag is for keeps. Here are my favourites (so far):

Selfridges limited edition Beauty Box



As a bit of a beauty novice, I should in theory love those little beauty boxes you subscribe to which contain lots of little lotions and potions. I know there are so many amazing products and brands out there but I don’t really have the time to check them out (fashion is my passion, dolls) so this is probably the best way to try lots of things and see if they work. The thing is, I’m quite particular and prefer natural, premium products and I don’t really trust them to choose high-end, quality products which are suitable for all. The ones I’ve seen contain a lot of make up and it just doesn’t suit every skintone. That’s the problem with having one generic beauty box.



My interest in beauty boxes was piqued upon hearing that Selfridges were launching one to celebrate the launch of their new beauty empire- The Beauty Workshop. I’m sure you know that I adore Selfridges and if anyone can get it right, they can. I actually got my hands on one of the coveted boxes last night prior to today’s launch and I am so impressed! The Beauty Box costs just £15 but it contains over £200 worth of high end products, very generous sizes too - the Stila One Step Correct is actually a full size product. The products they have picked have been clearly thought about, facial oils, serums, hair masks and facial masks which are perfect for some luxe pampering but will suit all skintones and types. Here is a list of products included in the box:

Antipodes Organic avocado & rosehip divine facial oil – A nutrient-rich, organic facial oil which helps deliver essential nourishment to give a lift to tired, stressed and sun-damaged skin. Scientifically shown to stimulate Type I collagen by up to 51%, this oil helps reduce the appearance of lines and age spots while targeting scars and wrinkles.


Aesop Parsley Seed Anti Oxidant Serum – An anti-oxidant rich, daily use serum moisturiser which is great for hydrating dry, combination or sensitive skin. Natural ingredients such as grape and parsley seed extracts, aloe vera and chamomile moisturise and soothe the skin. Although I don’t have sensitive skin, it’s really great that a gentle, nourishing serum like this has been included.

Estelle& Thild Lip Balm – Lip balms don’t come more nourishing than this pretty, tinted one from Estelle & Thild. This organic lip balm is packed full of vitamins to pamper, plump and protect your lips while giving them a subtle, barely-there slick of colour.

Philip B Katira Hair Masque – A gentle yet versatile hair rejuvenator, this unique clear gel formula is absorbed instantly to plump up fine, limp hair or smooth course, unruly hair. Suitable for all hair textures, the hair mask is light, silky and doesn’t leave behind any residue. The key ingredient is pure Katira extract which targets and fills in weak, damaged spots in the hair cuticle for smoothness and strength while L-Amino Acid complex infuses your hair with weightless, oil-free moisturising and nourishing proteins for enhanced control and elasticity.


Bio Effect EGF Serum – This powerful little serum is a next-generation anti-aging serum which improves the appearance and health of skin by encouraging it to repair its own cells. There is some whizzy exciting science which mimics cellular activators which occur naturally in our skin and speeds up the rate of cell turnover – something which decreases with age. Within weeks, this little wonder potion will reduce wrinkles and improve radiance. 


Stila One Step Correct – I am literally so excited to try this little potion out. As the name suggests, it’s a one-step corrector for any imperfection you may have. As a primer, colour corrector, brightener and anti-aging serum all in one, a few squirts of this wonder lotion will hide imperfections, reduced lines, wrinkles, pores and pigmentation as well as hydrate, control oil and improve skin texture wightlessly. The triple-swirled helix contains three different colours: green to neutralise redness and conceal blemishes, lavender to counteract sallow undertones for a vibrant, energised look and peach to brighten and illuminate. Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask – Omorovicza is a name you probably aren’t familiar with, it’s a leading premium, super luxe Hungarian skincare brand which utilises mineral cosmetology to create some really fantastic beauty products. This deep cleansing mask contains Hungarian moor mud which is rich in calcium and magnesium carbonates to cleanse deeply and nourish while white clay absorbs pore-clogging oil and draws out toxins and impurities.

It's Selfridges sale time!

I'm pretty sure bank managers across the country are quaking in their boots as pretty much every retailer has announced their sale today! Having a quick peruse on the interweb rather than joining the scrum of sale shoppers is the civilised route to sale shopping and the one sale which you must visit is Selfridges. I'm cooing over the gorgeous Mulberry bags which are selling out faster than you can say "I want it now"! Be quick to snap up a bargain. My top tip is to purchase classic accessories and justify the expenditure via the old cost-per-wear logic. Throw in an equation and a spreadsheet and I'm sure Mr Bank Manager will agree that you were actually saving money rather than spending it...

Designer Spotlight: Masc


I briefly wrote about emerging new label MASC a couple of months ago in a post about Selfridges' Bright Young Things but they definitely deserve a closer look. Founded just last year by Duncan Shaw and Billy Yick, the design duo took part in the final gala show at Graduate Fashion Week before being selected by Selfridges as one of the leading young design talents in the UK. Duncan was personally selected to study the Masters Fashion Design programme at the Institut Francais De La Mode in Paris, culminating in a Distinction awarded by Yves Saint Laurent co-founder Pierre Berg. MASC's design aesthetic is serene Japanese simplicity coupled with draping and structured silhouettes. The cutting techniques allow for expressive draping resulting in stunning form-focused womenswear. MASC is available at Young British Designers

Wednesday Wish List - Bright Young Things

One of the things I love most about the London fashion scene is the tremendous amount of support offered to young, emerging designers. From New Gen and Fashion Fringe to Fashion East, there are so many initiatives to give creatives a platform and business mentoring which is why there is such a wealth of design talent who go on to make their mark on the international fashion industry. Bright Young Things is one of the newer initiatives, launched last year by iconic department store Selfridges. They provided young creatives the kind of exposure an emerging designer can only dream of - one of their much talked about and publicised window displays. The likes of Kirsty Ward, Simone Rocha, Martine Rose and Matthew Miller were part of the original line up and have gone on to achieve great things in 2011.

Wednesday Wish List: Selfridges White Christmas

Last week, I spied the Selfridges Christmas windows and while I wasn't overwhelmed, I was certainly inspired. There is just something about crisp, clean white at Christmas, it's almost iconic. All of these pieces look super pristine and are exclusive to Selfridges - I didn't know they had such a large range of exclusive products until recently. The likes of Vivienne Westwood, Michael Kors, Toywatch, Ralph Lauren and McQueen all do exclusive pieces so it's well worth checking out if you're after something a little special. On Sunday, I strolled past Selfridges and the corner window caught my eye - it was snowing! The snow machine was incredible, totally mesmerising. My picture really doesn't do it justice, you really must see it for yourself and also wind up the musical wind up window, which really worked much to my surprise.

Chopard Temptations collection in Selfridges Wonder room

Welcome to a world of cupcakes, tea parties and the most luxurious, twinkling haute joaillerie collection. Luxury Swiss watch and jewellery maker Chopard has taken up residence in Selfridges’ Wonder Room to showcase their beautiful collection – temptations. Inspired by the tea party theme of Elton John’s White Tie & Tiara ball, the collection includes some really stunning pieces which have never been seen before in the UK. Using the rarest precious stones such as white, brown and orange diamonds, Chopard  has created fantastical animal-inspired pieces which really challenge traditional perceptions of jewellery. I spied my favourite piece among duck rings, beaver earrings and panda pendants: a gecko bracelet set in 259 white diamonds, 139 brown diamonds and 18 orange diamonds. The images really don’t do the collection justice so pop down to the Wonder Room in Selfridges before 31st August to catch a glimpse of this super luxe collection before it's gone.
