Menswear Monday: Louis Vuitton AW13 collection

The journey of a traveller was a common theme for the autumn/winter 2013 menswear shows but no one has done it quite like Louis Vuitton. Menswear style director Kim Jones travelled to the mountains of the Himalayas and the kingdom of Bhutan, inspired by the textures, cultures and creatures of these faraway lands. Taking his cue from mountaineering tech and tradition, Kim has created a layer which mixes tailoring with traditional, luxurious outerwear. The parkas and overcoats were the real highlight for me, lovely sumptuous furs, sheepskin and shearling in soft shades of creams, tans and slate greys.

Bhutanese motifs are sprinkled throughout the collection from the checks and stripes inspired by the national dress to snow leopard patterns, which appear in subtle accents through to all-over pattern. Subtle, refined and detail heavy, the collection has me dreaming of Himalayan winters.

LCM: Topman Design AW13

Today saw the second season launch of London Collections: Men. One of the most eagerly anticipated shows was Topman Design's showcase of their autumn/winter 2013 collection.

Inspired by gentleman explorers of yesteryear, the collection follows the journey of a nomadic young man who is inspired by the landscapes and cultures he experiences on his travels. Beginning with icy white shades, the traveler is clean and functional but as his journey progresses, he absorbs elements of different cultures which result in a beautiful, rich colour palette with hings of Tibetan prints, relaxed layering and bohemian luxury.

Modern elements early on in the collection such as metallic and lurex make way for sumptuous fabrics in jewel tones. Burnt oranges, deep red and midnight blue are key shades while the parka is the integral piece of the season. Accessories are also key; oversize functional leather rucksacks with leather hip flasks, compass holders and explorer boots complete this look of modern day exploration.

Monday Treat: Dae Na

How dreamy is Dae Na? The 22-year-old Korean-born, Brooklyn-raised babe is a relative newcomer to the modelling world but he's already making waves. In recent years, the industry has been embracing Asian models; Liu Wen became the first Asian Victoria's Secret Angel while Sui He, Hye Park and Ming Xi have graced magazine covers, walked for couture shows and starred in high profile campaigns. While the girls have been working their way to the top of their game, things have been much slower for the boys. Dae Na seems to be the exception though, in less than a year the handsome 6'2 model has been shot by Terry Richardson, styled by Formichetti, walked for Calvin Klein and shot campaigns for Donna Karan, J.Crew and Diesel as well as the cover for Vogue Homme Japan. Santa, if you're reading, I've been really good and I'd love to find Dae under my tree on Christmas morning!

Monday Teat: Joe Manganeillo

I don't know why it's taken me so long to put together a Monday Treat post about Joe Manganiello...or Alcide Herveaux...or Big Dick Ritchie depending on where you've seen him around. I first noticed Joe when he strolled onto my screen as hunky werewolf Alcide Herveaux in True Blood. Joe has been acting for years and he is classically trained, he has a BFA in acting from Carnegie Mellon School of Drama. He has previously acted in ER, One Tree Hill and How I Met Your Mother but True Blood was his real break out role. Joe was also one of the stars of Magic Mike alongside Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey. Be prepared to see a lot more of Joe, he's currently filming Ten with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Monday treat: Mathias Bergh

After a brief flirtation with celebrity boys, we're back to good, old fashioned models. There's just something about dimples, dreamy eyes and chiseled features, and they don't come much more chiseled than Mathias Bergh. The delicious Swede scored campaigns for the likes of Tom Ford and Bottega Veneta in 2012 and he has walked for John Varvatos, Ermenegildo Zegna and Ferragamo among many, many others. A favourite of Meisel, Inez and Vinoodh, Gucci and Ferre, Mathias is fortunate enough to only work with the best. Well, he started his career by walking for Gucci, Prada and Burberry in his first season! It must be the smile....
