One of the reasons I love summer is the trends are just a lot more fun than winter trends, which tend to be centered around dark colours and heavy fabrics season in and season out. Summer, on the other hand, is a lot more playful. Sweet sorbet shades? Cool. Tangles of fringing? Why not. Fruit prints? Bring it on. As a result, I tend to invest in a winter wardrobe of quality knitwear and the like whereas my summer wardrobe is full of clashing high street buys which were probably bought on a whim.
The two things I don’t scrimp on are swimwear and sunglasses. With swimwear, I just can’t bear the thought of accidentally going see-through after a dip in the sea and likewise, I like to know my eyes are 100% protected from harmful rays with good quality sunglasses. Over the years, I have invested in classic sunglasses and I adore my Rayban Wayfarers and Tom Ford aviators more than any other summer accessory. Now that I feel like I have some of the staple sunglass shapes down, I really want to brand out with some statement sunglasses to keep my ridiculously huge PPQ sunglasses company – they are absolutely outlandish! Here are my top five statement sunglasses:

Designer of Rihanna’s iconic CFDA dress, Selman has partnered with Le Specs for a gorgeous 70s –inspired sunglass collection. I love this exaggerated cat-eye style in navy blue. So sassy.
Prism White Mirror Brasilia - £255
These white graphic sunglasses by swimwear brand Prism would look so amazing with a pared back, minimal outfit and sliders.
Stella’s SS15 accessories are so fun. I love the Superhero bags and these very literal cat’s eye sunglasses with metal accents.
When I think of the Olsen twins, I always think of them wearing something oversized in a muted palette topped off with covetable round sunglasses, they’re definitely a style signature.
You can’t really talk about statement sunglasses without talking about Linda Farrow. Her incredible sunglass collaborations are a little crazy but I absolutely love this lips pair.
