Wildfox loves Barbie

As a child, I was a very girly girl. It was all pretty dresses, bows, pink and playing with dolls. When I grew up, it was a different story and you’d find me climbing trees with cuts and scrapes on my knees just like the boys but while I was young it was all very proper. As a child of the 80s, I favoured the glamorous American Barbie over boring British Sindy, who had no place in my toy box. Barbie on the otherhand, well I had everything from Doctor Barbie and Gymnast Barbie to Superstar Barbie along with the house, horse, car and of course Ken. I still have a secret soft spot for Barbie; I was overjoyed when I went ‘blonde like Barbie’ a few years ago.
When I heard on the grapevine that super cool LA-based brand Wildfox were creating a Dreamhouse collection, I was more excited that a 20-something should be! The collection consists of 12 limited edition capsule pieces which pretty accurately represent what Barbie would wear if she was real and living in 2014 and had a bit of a thing for the 80s. The campaign really brings the collection to life, shot in Barbie’s Dreamhouse and showing everything from her morning workout to lounging by the pool and of course her hot pink Corvette makes a cameo.
Stand out pieces include the ‘My resume’ tshirts which have a list of occupations on the back (because Barbie can be anything she wants to be), the ‘I love Ken’ tops, all of the workout clothes, the limited edition pink aviators and the Barbie bikini. There are so many cute little details, including sunscreen and cotton candy scented fabrics – whatever happened to scented and colour changing tshirts?!
