Passion for Fashion competition - win £1,000!

I can't say for sure when I discovered my passion for fashion but I think it's safe to say it's a lifelong passion. I remember the time my class was picked to do the school assembly in primary school, I was more concerned that everyone was wearing citrus shades because they were "in" rather than learning my lines! Fast forward a couple of decades and fashion is such an integral part of my life that I don't think I could function without it! That's not me being melodramatic, I work in the industry for my day job and also blog on the side...and some of the most important people in my life have been met at fashion events.

When I was approached to be a judge in the MoneySupermarket Passion for Fashion competition, I jumped at the chance. If like me, you also love fashion then you'll love the prize. There are six great prizes up for grabs, the top prize is an amazing £1,000 to spend on your dream autumn/winter wardrobe plus an iPad 3! There will also be five runner up prizes of £200 to spend on an autumn/winter outfit.

To enter, all you have to do is put together an outfit complete with accessories for each of the five categories - outdoor, partywear, casual, first date and office - to get the ultimate autumn/winter wardrobe for £1,000 (£200 per category). Put these together in a post explaining your outfits and how you've managed to get an on-trend look at high street prices. Once you've written the post, email passionforfashion@moneysupermarket.com with a link to your post to enter.

I'll be judging the first date category so I thought I'd help you out by letting you know what I'm looking for. I think this is a pretty hard category as a first date can mean many things -  dinner, a movie, drinks, a show, coffee - so the oufit needs to be versatile but also make you feel good...after all you need to be confident and happy on a first date. I was given this advice a while ago and it totally makes sense; "Don't be too 'fashion'". As much as you want to impress on a first date, being 'too fashion' can be intimidating. Ashish sequin pants with heel-less shoes and a studded bra top are not a good first date look!

Here's the look that I pulled together for just £194.94. I took inspiration from the 20s style pieces which were all over the autumn/winter 2012 catwalks but adapted it for a date look. I love this sheer dress by Rut M.F.L at Nelly.com, it has a hint of the 20s with it's on-trend midi-length. Midi-length can be quite a hard dress length to work but the sheer fabric keeps it from looking too frumpy. I've chosen a simple black bodycon dress to go under it and a stunning art deco brocade belt to jazz it up. As a first date could be anything from a walk around town to a fancy meal, I had to go with wedges as they're versatile, can be dressed up or down and are comfy. I finished off my look with a ponyskin leopard print clutch for a bit of personality and some art deco earrings.

So there you go, I think this outfit definitely shows my Passion For Fashion and I’m looking forward
to judging your entries!
