Timex Style of the Times event

I'm a self-confessed non-watch wearer. When I got my first mobile phone aged 13, I declared watches surplus to requirement and I haven't looked back. That's not to say I haven't admired nice shiny timepieces; I used to love Toywatch and certainly wouldn't say no to a Chanel J12. Fleeting moments aside, I stood firm with my "I'm not a watch person" stance.

Recently, Timex invited me over to the lovely Riding House cafe to check out their timepieces. Although "I'm not a watch person", I popped along as I really like the brand. It's funny how people can get set in their ways about something and once the decision has been made then that's it - much like me and my watch stance. However, after seeing the collection and being talked through the range, my magpie eyes were glittering. Some weren't to my taste but a heck of a lot were, who knew?! Surprisingly, I was drawn to the thick, chunky menswear watches. I think there's just something about wearing a substantial timepiece.

I had to pick one watch to get shot in by the lovely Jackie Dixon. After much deliberation, I picked a vintage-looking, traditional leather strapped beauty. The metal surrounding the face is rose gold which gave it a distinctive and slightly feminine look. I love rose gold on watches and always admired Michael Kors watches on city girls but after seeing how chic but understated a dash of rose gold looks on a gentleman's watch, the bling of the Michael Kors watches looks very unnecessary and ostentatious.

Unfortunately my watch isn't out yet but I took home a lovely, chunky black watch from their Timex Traveller collection. I've actually worn it almost everyday since the event and received so many compliments on it. It was super practical for my holiday too - it features microprocessors to instantly display the time in 24 cities across the world, much better than fiddling around to manually adjust the time. And it looks pretty amazing besides all of the practical features.

I was styled by Jackie Dixon as part of Timex's Style of the Times event. To see more photographs from the event keep up with all the latest Timex news and styles visit the Timex tumblr
