Richard Nicoll x Topshop bridal collection

I have to admit, when I first heard that the fabulous Richard Nicoll was designing a budget bridal collection with Topshop, I was super excited. When he announced that it was going to be an antidote to the traditional meringue dresses, I almost jumped for joy. Sure, every girl wants to feel like a princess on her wedding day but you don’t necessarily want to look like a 1950s Disney Princess! Times have changed, silhouettes have moved on. The bride is always the centre of attention at a wedding, she doesn’t need a dress so big and poufy that she take out five people everytime she turns around. I was a fan from the start.

Now that I’ve seen the collection, I’m quite underwhelmed. The dresses are super cool and laidback but just not bridal enough. I know that may sound like a contradiction of my earlier stance but I do think a bridal dress needs to look special. The lace tshirt dress for example would look amazing with a pair of scuffed boots, beach hair and some flower headbands…at a festival. Maybe I’m being harsh, the campaign shots do look stunning and much better than the flat product images but they just lack something. What do you think of the Blushing Brides collection?
