London Fashion Week: Sophie Hulme AW12

There’s a bit of a hierarchy at LFW – I’m not talking the obvious frow vs. the rest of us, standers vs. sitters, editors vs. bloggers; I mean shows vs. presentations. As much as I love the clamour before a show starts, the dramatic dimming of the lights and the thumping tunes, nothing beats getting up close to pieces and seeing the detail that you usually miss at a show. I’m sure some people think they are missable but not to me. It’s rare to have a presentation causing Twitter buzz, this is usually reserved to the shows in the main tent but the twitter-savvy fashionistas were all-a-buzz for Sophie Hulme’s autumn/winter presentation.

I’ve been familiar with Sophie’s clean, minimalist masculine-inspired clothing and hardwear heavy bags for a couple of years now so I was super pleased to see her first on-schedule appearance at LFW. Inspired by dinosaurs, the motif appeared on the invite as well as necklaces, on belts and a gorgeous t-rex lace cut out. The collection had a strong focus on outerwear, with masculine coats, tailored blazers, sherling leather coats and cosy looking parkas in a simple dove grey, dark navy and charcoal colour palette interspersed with flashes of fluorescent pink. The stand out pieces for me where the utterly stunning briefcase bags – I really need one of those in my life.
