Friday Fashion Fix

Burberry reaches 10 million.

Super social fashion brand Burberry has reached a major milestone - 10 million Facebook fans. Stop for a minute and think about that number. It's a huge amount of highly engaged individuals and a testament to Burberry's continuing investment and innovation in social media.

Alessandra Ambrosio was pregnant when she walked for Victoria's Secret.

I know....I know. Two months pregnant and she still looked out of this world.

Kanye is London.

Things have been pretty quiet on the Kanye front since his disastrous show in Paris but word on the street is he is moving to London. Having previously received mentoring from Central St Martins, this seems like a logical move. His spring collection is still set to show at Paris, are you looking forward to seeing what he has up his sleeve?

Charlie le Mindu for Aqua.

It's a little surprisingly to see avant garde haute coiffure Charlie le Mindu team up with a high street label, but Aqua are known for their sculptural, fashion forward designs so it kind of works. The two unisex tshirts were launched during Online Fashion Week earlier this month and are now available online and in Aqua's flagship stores.
Elle Fanning Teen Vogue February 2012.

Confession time: I love the Fannings. Ever since I first saw Man on Fire, Dakota has had a place in my heart. At first, I wasn't a bit fan of Elle (Team Dakota..) but I've come around, the younger Fanning. She's coming into her stride as a bonafide mini fashionista and she's pretty darn adorable too. Will you be buying Teen Vogue to check out Elle's cover and editorial?

Earlier this month, I was invited to the launch of one of London's newest labels - Negarin. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend, boy am I kicking myself. Held at the exclusive Home House, the launch event was a star studded affair with the likes of muse Erin O'Connor in attendance along with Hilary Alexander. The design team (above) is led by Negarin Sadr (above center), who is inspired by her exotic background; fusing vivacious Eastern influences with sophisticated Western influences in easy to wear, versatile pieces. Negarin explains: "We're realists, which is why a Negarin shirt dress will take you effortlessly from an important meeting to a cocktail bar. Similarly, our signature tube dress doesn't need dry cleaning - to fulfill it's fashion potential. Our pieces are easy to wear and always look fabulous".

The Nightwalk

I don't believe in love at first sight, I certainly believe in lust at first sight though. A glimpse is all it takes to make your heart skip a beat and make the rest of the world melt away into the background. That's exactly how I felt when I stumbled upon Jeffrey Campbell's exquisite Nightwalks on Sarenza. Heel-less shoes aren't a new, Victoria Beckham was wearing some Antonio Berardi beauties back in her wannabe fashionista days and of course Lady Gaga has been seen in towering 12" heel-less shoes by Noritaka Tatehana earlier this year. That doesn't make heel-less shoes any special though, so I had to snap these up and count down the hours til they were mine.

Roksanda Ilincic x Matches

To say Roksanda Ilincic has had a stellar year is an understatement. While the rest of us were battling with a bleak January, Roksanda saw none other than Michelle Obama wearing one of her dresses on a state visit, propelling the designer onto the global fashion stage. From then on, Roksanda has dressed everyone from Kate Middleton and Keira Knightley to Carey Mulligan and Florence Welch. She has also launched a gorgeous swimwear collection and became one of the newest designers for Debenhams' Edition range. The cherry on top of her perfectly frosted cake is a new collaboration with designer boutique Matches.

Printemps Christmas window 2011

Christmas may technically be over, but we can still enjoy all things festive, right? I'm still making the most of the awesome telly and the festive overindulgence pass as well as smiling at the twinkling Christmas lights and decorations. I've already posted about the Selfridges Christmas window which was slightly disappointing, especially compared to the Printemps flagship in Paris. The French department store may have an unfair advantage though, like Harrods a couple of months ago, they've had a Chanel take over meaning that the windows were curated by Karl Lagerfeld resulting in very chic and very cool windows. My favourite is the one with the mini Karls. What do you think of the windows?

Shop the Selfridges Christmas sale

It seems London was a scary place to be yesterday, scenes of pandemonium at both Westfields and a stabbing at Oxford Circus hit the headlines as well as the crazy reductions. People had been queuing for hours outside Selfridges and over 200 security guards and police had to keep the peace; we all love a designer bargain but it may just be safer to order from home! I love Selfridges, it's been my favourite department store for years and though the inclusion of high street brands is a bit controversial I'm coming around to finding (carefully selected) high street pieces alongside designer beauties. I know the KG shoes won't be to everyone's taste but they are calling my name...

Shop the Net-a-Porter Christmas sale

As my Twitter followers know, I'm more than partial to a spot of retail therapy at Net-a-Porter, especially as it's sale time. At the moment they have up to 50% off over 2000 pieces so there really is something for everyone. I usually stick to mid-price ranges like Boy by Band Of Outsider or Marcus Lupfer or diffusion lines like Etoile Isabel Marant and Burberry Brit, plus really great accessories. What's your favourite piece?

Oasis Christmas sale picks

I remember a time when the pre-Christmas sales were actually the Boxing Day sales and Harrods even waited until January to start. For me, pre-Christmas sales are a little wrong so I don't really partake and I still get up at the crack of dawn on Boxing Day, but now I tend to check out the sales online so I have a rough idea of what I'm going for. Oasis pieces are such great quality and the cut works for me so I tend to go for staple pieces like leather jackets, little black dresses and classic shapes but I also can't resist trend pieces like bright lace, art deco embellishment and sherbet shades,

Clockwise from top left:
Boucle jumper - was £60, now £30.
Embellished scallop detail top - was £45 now £20.
Lace skater dress - was £32, now £20.
Pleated asymmetric panel dress - was £150, now £85.
Leather biker jacket - was £165, now £100.
60s dolly coat - was £65, now £45.
Embellished collar top - was £45, now £30.
Rosette one shoulder dress - was £65, now £40.
Bead fringe choker - was £24, now £12.
Metallic skater skirt - was £35, now £25.

Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2012

Christmas is the most magical time of the year, but pretty stressful to say the least. Well congratulations, we've made it to Christmas Eve eve which means we're at the home stretch. I figured something beautiful and serene would be much appreciated so here's Zac Posen's stunning pre-fall 2012 collection. The sharp silhouettes, the decadent volume, strokable textures; take a break, put your feet up and drink in the beauty.

Sneak peek: Karl Lagerfeld's affordable line

This week sees the release of the first couple of pictures from Karl Lagerfeld's hotly anticipated affordable range, which launches online exclusively at Net-a-Porter. The 100 piece "masstige"  collection will debut on January 25th during Paris Couture Week (an odd move as it's an affordable range) and will be priced from £40 for a canvas bag. Aimed at women in their late teens to early 20s, the collection features pieces from trousers, sweatshirts, skirts, shirts, dresses, tshirts, shoes and bags with a rock edge. Karl stated: "I just want not too expensive clothes that people may like and perhaps want to wear. That was my concept for a long time, but my business partners in the past wanted to be like Chanel or Fendi without putting behind what is needed to be like that ... Now I am feeling we are ready for the right job — the way to do things right in a modern, unusual way.”

Own The Runway launch ‘Boutique’ collection

A couple of weeks ago, I gave you a sneak peek of Own The Runway’s fantastic – and affordable – collection of shoes. The celebrity favourite, which only launched in August 2010, is launching it’s first capsule collection entitled Boutique. Featuring a pretty range of shift dresses, embellished cocktail dresses, Seventies-inspired jumpsuits and Sixties skater dresses, the collection has a really luxe, premium feel at prices which range from £24.99 to £52.99.

Versace for H&M Cruise 2012 collection

The wheels of fashion are always turning, the first Versace x H&M collection only launched in store a couple of weeks ago and images of the impending Cruise 2012 collection have been released. The kitsch fruit print collection will be available on 19th January online only for Sweden, UK, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway. The online only release is a strange move, especially as H&M don't have a transactional site for the US which means they totally miss out. What do you think of the collection, will you be queuing up next month?

Winter Kate on ASOS

When Nicole Ritchie launched her Winter Kate label back in 2010, to say that the fashion industry was sceptical was an understatement. In a time where every other celebrity had a clothing line, Winter Kate was just another name to add to a long list. Sure, the petite star had style but there’s a difference between being a well dressed celebrity (with or without the help of a stylist) and having a successful clothing line. Fast forward almost two years and both Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960 are fully fledged collections which include ready-to-wear, jewellery, eyewear, footwear and handbags which are sold in the likes of Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Selfridges and now ASOS. Nicole is really carving out a niche for 60s and 70s style bohemian dresses and kimonos with feminine floaty silhouettes and pretty embroidered details. Here are my top picks from the selection at ASOS:

Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2012

I have to admit, I love a Michael Kors bag. A friend has a theory that there is a label who's handbags appeal to you, hers is Stella McCartney and mine is Michael Kors. I do love the clothing collections too but just not as much as the bags, but this is all set to change after I caught a glimpse of the pre-Fall collection. Strikingly different to spring/summer's "Afriluxe" collection, Mr Kors is heavily inspired by Americana and the Southwest. The Calvin Klein-esque clean lines and slightly masculine feel is interspersed with a handful of feminine looks such as the flouncy dipped hem dresses in bold shades. The equestrian detailed accessories really tie the collection together.

The red leather trousers.

You've already seen these utterly fantastic red leather trousers in my previous post on Tramp Vintage. I fell for them hard and the super generous ladies at Tramp sent them to me! Forget making my day, they made my week. As the gorgeous cherry colour is so bright, I decided to keep it simple and wear my faithful Georgia Rose stilettos from Sarenza and a plain black vest top from Zara which really allows the leather trousers to become the focal point of the outfit. Not that there's any danger of them fading to the background, colour aside the great cut, folder over cuffs, tie up back and super nipped in scallop waist make sure all eyes are on them. I think I'll go for a more high octane look next time though, my sheer cobalt blue shirt is crying out for a playdate with them. Would you wear cherry red trousers?

Introducing Liam Fahy

A couple of months ago, I stumbled upon the lovely Liam Fahy at the LFW exhibitions. His striking shoe collection immediately caught my eye, the shoes are spectacular from a distance and even better close up with really great attention to detail and brilliant Italian craftship. The collection epitomises luxury, with each of the limited edition shoes inscribed with a signature nickel detailing on the sole. The Spring/Summer 2012 collection, The Elegant Collectables, is inspired by Colonial African school uniforms, liquoirish, Pan Am girls and 1950s metallic typography, resulting in a breathtaking collection of sharp wedges, subtle platforms and soft textures. Although it’s a SS12 collection, the darker colour palette and luxe fabrics give it a seasonless feel. This is what Liam said about the collection: “The increasing pace of commercial fashion is restricting genuine creativity amongst so many designers, as a result the boundaries of seasons have become  blurred, so why not create a collection embracing a schizophrenic season. It’s about having the confidence not to change so fast.”

2012 Pirelli Calendar (NSFW)

It's Pirelli calendar time! I posted a little sneak peek behind-the-scenes video last Friday, I hope that whet your whistle for a look at the whole calendar. This year, it was shot by Mario Sorrenti who picked several models he's worked with before including Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Joan Smalls, Lara Stone and Edita Vilkevicute. Shot in Corsica, Sorrenti originally wanted the shoot to be very sexy but in the end decided to keep it simple and subtle. In that sense, he has more than achieved his goal but I have to say, I prefer last year's Lagerfeld shot calendar - which I also posted about. What do you think of the shots?

Kirsty Ward SS12 video

Kirsty Ward's Spring/Summer 2012 collection sees the Oxford born womenswear designer Kirsty continue to explore her design signatures of multi-layering, cutaways, embellishment and sheer fabrics coupled with new influences such as neon and neoprene and menswear. Similar to Maria Francesca Pepe, Kirsty blurs the lines between clothing and jewellery as she uses oversized Swarovski necklaces and coloured chains draped over cotton dresses and sheer tops. Next season sees the introduction of her first handbag collection and also a body-con lingerie collaboration with Mint Siren, with a retro Sixties silhouette and futurising long-line bra tops with sculptural bone work. My favourite look is the super sheer blue organza maxi dress and the dipped hem menswear work shirt inspired look .

Friday Fashion Fix - December 2011

Karlie Kloss lands Vogue Italia cover.

Hot on the heels of her Victoria's Secret debut, Karlie is turning up the heat on the cover of Vogue Italia. Shot by Steve Meisel, Karlie has the gaze of a lioness on the cover while she ruches up her dress to her hip with the words 'extra strength' emblazoned on her behind. That's but a taster of the spectacular editorial inside. Karlie looks absolutely unreal, with the figure of a goddess it's hard to believe she was on the cover of Teen Vogue just 4 years ago. I have just three words to say: The. Next. Super.

Christmas Gift Guide - blow the budget

If you want to blow the budget, make sure you go for something beautiful to cherish. It can be something practical like a Bobbi Brown brush set or classic tweed iPad case or something fun like a kitsch lips clutch or street style worthy printed piece. Either way, it must be something that the lucky recipient will treasure for years to come.

Guilt-free shopping with Give As You Live

A couple of weeks ago I popped over to Liberty to hear about a really great cause – Give As You Live. The concept is really simple; lots of retailers have signed up to Give As You Live and will donate a percentage of what you buy to a charity of your choice. It costs absolutely nothing to you but will benefit a great charity, how fabulously simple is that? All you have to do is either shop through the Give As You Live shop or download it so the sale can be tracked and your money will go to one of the 220,000 registered charities which range from local schools to national charities. Stores taking part in the sceme include Amazon, Debenhams, John Lewis, Selfridges, Topshop,, Waterstones, Very, Game, Boots, House of Fraser, Kurt Geiger, New Look, French Connection, Dune Shoes, McQueen, The Outnet, Net-A-Porter, Ralph Lauren, Farfetch, Agent Provocateur and of course Liberty among many others which is perfect for the Christmas shopping…or if you fancy getting yourself a sneaky gift. They also have a great wishlist feature so you can point people in the right direction and help support a great cause at the same time. So far, they have donated £2,249,756.10 to charity which is a fantastic achievement but we can help them raise so much more. Take a look at their top 10 gift guides for some shopping inspiration.

The evening coat

A couple of months ago, I wasn't really into coats. They were a bit of an after thought, I'd just grab the last one I threw onto a chair and hope it vaguely went with what I was wearing. Oh how foolish was I, I've seen the error of my ways after one or two faux pas. My black trench is never going to look good with denim cut offs and scuffed flat boots and my cape isn't the best thing to wear with a super voluminous dress. Over the last month or so, I've learnt that a coat wasn't a necessary evil which obscures a fabulous outfit, it's like the frosting on a cupcake. The cape really comes into it's own when paired with skinny jeans to accentuate it's shape for example.

Christmas Gift Guide - Under £100

The under £100 budget is perfect for spoiling someone special. I think the key is to either go for something luxe like a fabulous statement necklace or some sumptuous silk lingerie or treat them to something they may have had their eye on for a while but couldn't quite justify like the fabulous Louboutin retrospective book or a snuggley Ralph Lauren scarf.

Christmas Gift Guide - under £50

The under £50 budget is a lot more flexible, allowing you to pick some really nice high street pieces like a statement bag in suede or diffusion line pieces and mid-range jewels. The Designers at Debenhams homeware ranges are really quirky and look a lot more expensive than they are and I'm sure a nice piece of jewellery would be gratefully received.

Christmas Gift Guide - Under £20

These days, a £20 budget can take you a long way! I think the key is to think about the person you're buying a gift for and get something a little bit quirky and different. Slippers and smellies are usually a safe bet, but the adorable fleece-lined cat slippers are a nice touch for a cat lover and Benefit's Ticket to Glossytown set is perfect for lipgloss addicts. If all else fails, Lush will never let you down they have a massive range of gift sets which are all beautifully wrapped - bonus.

Dressing up at Tramp Vintage

Last week, I posted about my trip to Brighton to check out the beautiful Tramp Vintage boutique. While I was there, the lovely Francesca and I had a little impromptu dressing up session - there were so many gorgeous pieces I wouldn't leave without trying a couple half the shop on. What's your favourite piece?
