Last week, I spied the Selfridges Christmas windows and while I wasn't overwhelmed, I was certainly inspired. There is just something about crisp, clean white at Christmas, it's almost iconic. All of these pieces look super pristine and are exclusive to Selfridges - I didn't know they had such a large range of exclusive products until recently. The likes of Vivienne Westwood, Michael Kors, Toywatch, Ralph Lauren and McQueen all do exclusive pieces so it's well worth checking out if you're after something a little special. Are you inspired by winter white this season?
This morning brings news that has the Twitterati in a buzz:
H&M’s next collaboration is with Italian luxury brand Marni. The collection
will feature menswear, womenswear and accessories and launch on 8th
March 2012 worldwide – mark the date in your calendar. Although the well-known
brand collaborations with the likes of Versace and Jimmy Choo have done really
well for H&M and have caused overnight queues and hysteria, I think it’s a
great move for them to go with a slightly under-the-radar brand. There have
already been quips on Twitter saying the majority of the population will wonder
if Marni is somehow connected to Armani, but as one of fashion’s most-loved
labels, the collaboration is due to do very well. It’s something for
fashionistas to genuinely get excited about.
Attention California girls! Punk chic label Thomas Wylde are having a sample sale this Saturday with up to 90% off retail prices...I know, incredible. Please go, have fun and buy something so I can live vicariously through you. If you do snap up a bargain, do let me know.
The lovely guys at one of my favourite high street haunts - 18 and East - recently asked me to take part in their "Style It Your Way" challenge. All I had to do was pick a piece and style it my way. Simple, non? Well no actually, I discovered the hardest part of the challenge was actually picking one piece, their AW11 collection has some really great pieces, I love the bright teal and coral pieces which are perfect for injecting some colour into your autumnal wardrobe and the cute prints are super fun.
I almost went for a lovely star printed skirt but chose this oversize waterprint chiffon shirt. The voluminous box shape just looked so easy to wear and the blurry, blotchy colours are so unique. I wore the shirt with black skinny jeans from J.Brand and brogue wedges from Bertie. The shirt is so versatile though, I'm looking forward to wearing it dressed down with studded biker boots, layered over dresses, basically with everything! How would you style up this shirt?
A week ago, I popped over to Brighton to meet my friend Steph from Deer Brains and check out Brighton's best vintage emporium - Tramp Vintage. Situated a hop and a skip away from the railway station, the stunning window immediately caught my eye. The three stunning white lace gowns in the window really made Tramp stand out in a street littered with vintage stores and gave a good indication as to what you will discover inside.
Lady Gaga looked absolutely stunning at the launch of Gaga's Workshop in Barneys in New York. She wore a custom Chanel couture dress which was specially designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The workshop is on the store's fifth floor until 2nd Jan and 25% of all sales will goto Gaga's Born This Way Foundation which focuses on youth empowerment.
Stella McCartney and McQueen to show at London Fashion Week.
The big news this week is that two of London's biggest fashion exports - McCartney and McQueen - will be returning to show at London Fashion Week in February. When I first heard the news, I thought it was great to have two huge British names back on our schedule. It always makes me a little sad to see our designers show overseas, although it's obviously a great move for them and British fashion as a whole. McCartney and McQueen aren't back for good though and it's not their mainline shows that we'll be seeing. McCartney will still show her collection in Paris, the London show will be a one-off capsule collection most likely connected to her role as Creative Director of Adidas Team GB. McQueen will be showing their McQ collection, prior to launching their first stand-alone store in Mayfair in Spring. I have mixed feelings about the two shows, what do you think about their return?
Sasha Pivovarova designs for Gap.
Model, painter, actress, designer. Is there nothing Sasha can't do? The 6-piece collection consists of underwear sets, camisoles, nightdresses and boy shorts which have been inspired by fairytales. With prices starting at £12.95, the range is super affordable and would make a fab Christmas pressie for fellow fashionistas. Is it just me or does the illustration remind anyone of the Prada SS 2006 and 2008 campaigns?
On Sunday, I strolled past Selfridges and the corner window caught my eye - it was snowing! The snow machine was incredible, totally mesmerising. My picture really doesn't do it justice, you really must see it for yourself and also wind up the musical wind up window, which really worked much to my surprise.
We all know that QVC does fabulous twinkling jewellery and the creme de la creme of cosmetics, I've blogged about their collaborations with gemologists and jewellery designers before and we've all had a sneaky peek at the Elemis or Decleor demostrations on their channel. They are so much more than a place to pick up distinctive jewels and pore perfecting potions though. When I popped down to Oui Rooms for their SS12 press day, I discovered just how diverse QVC are - practically a one stop shop for everything. Here are my favourite bits and pieces from their many collections.
Last week, I headed to the iconic OXO Tower for Clothing at Tesco's SS12 press day. After a brisk walk down a cold and dark South Bank, I stepped through the doors into a tropical summer setting. It was a lovely - and much needed - surprise, the bright lights and bold colours really brightened up my day. The vivid hues coupled with statement stripes, ditzy dots and fabulous florals made for a really eyecatching statement and a very strong collection - all at affordable prices. It's the most fashion-forward collection I've seen from F&F and really proved that supermarket chic does exist. The collection has really raised the bar for affordable fashion, New Look et al should take note.
You may not have heard of AX Paris, but you've definitely seen their collection. Available online as well as at New look, the celebrity favourite label counts the likes of Lauren Pope, Maria Fowler, The Saturdays and Kelly Brook as fans, they're are always seen out and about with their latest must-have piece. Although AX Paris are most well known for their gorgeous party dresses, they also have a really great collection which offers everything from snuggly knits, cute playsuits and cosy coats.
Earlier this week, Marc Jacobs' SS12 was cancelled as the entire collection was stolen in transit from Paris to London. Scotland Yard is investigating the situation. The Marc Jacobs Twitter account recently tweeted: "See any chic truck drivers cruising around Europe dressed in #SS12 collection? Get a pic and call 212-343-0222. Reward". Luckily, the collection was duplicate samples so the collection as it was shown in New York is safe and the red carpet won't be sans Jacobs.
Today is the day. In t-minus 2 hours, you can finally get your hands on the super amazing Versace for H&M collection. Hysteria was already building with reports of eager shoppers queuing at locations including Selfridges and Regents Street overnight to get their hands on the collection. The collection launches online and in selected stores at 9am tomorrow, if you're joining the scrum take a moment to check out my top pics and read the rules direct from H&M.
“The first 280 in line will receive one of 14 different coloured bracelets, 20 people for each bracelet colour. On the bracelet you will be given a specific time for shopping in our designated area. The bracelets are only needed for our women’s collection. Customers buying the men’s collection will not require a bracelet. When your time slot arrives, you will enter the designated area to shop for 15 minutes. Our goal is to create a better shopping experience for all of our customers.
If you are not one of the first 280 in line, you will of course have the opportunity to shop from the men’s collection or within H&M. When the 14 groups have finished their shopping we will open up the women’s collection to all of our customers.
To make sure as many customers as possible are able to buy from the Versace for H&M collection, we have a shopping limit. Every customer can buy from the entire collection, but with a limit of purchasing a maximum of two pieces per product, ie not more than two sizes (shoes/garments) or pieces (accessories) per product per customer. The shopping limit covers the entire Versace for H&M collection. Your place in line does not guarantee any items from the Versace for H&M collection.”
For those not joining in the madness, settle down, put your feet up and enjoy the Versace for H&M commercial. It's a little strange but I really like it though Donatella's catchphrase isn't a patch on "I want LANVIN not diamonds!".
I recently popped by Snow PR's showroom to get a closer look of their client's SS12 collections. I was fortunate enough to see the collections at LFW but I always love seeing my favourite pieces close up and seeing the prints, details and embellishment; it's almost like gaining a whole new perspective and appreciation for the collection.
What a show, what a show. I'm going to keep the text very brief as I gave you guys a head's up in my previous post, besides a picture is worth a thousand words. While Doutzen Kroes and Miranda Kerr's post baby figures look unbelievable, show opener Candice Swanepoel and closer Karlie Kloss were the stand out Angels for me. Karlie is undeniably the girl of the moment and a Super in the making.
I really loved the butterfly, ballet and underwater themes for their delicate beauty, twinkling jewels and winged heels - I need those in my life. I wasn't so keen on the superhero theme but it was still a great show and I can't wait to see it when it airs.
I know Push PR have a diverse client list which covers everything from homeware to footwear and vintage brands but I always think of them for jewellery. I recently met up with them at their press day at The W and unsurprisingly came away a memory card full of stunning jewellery pieces from the likes of EC One and Alice Menter.
Like Christmas, the Victoria's Secret fashion show comes but once a year. The 2011 extravaganza is being filmed today and will air on 29th November but I know you can't wait til then so I have a few tidbits to tide you over. This year's show has a budget of $12m, there are several themes but ballet and angels are set to be the key ones. There are 38 Victoria's Secret Angels gracing the runway. I mentioned that Karlie Kloss gets her wings in my Friday Fashion Fix post, she will be joined by 14 additional newcomers. Victoria's Secret veteran Adriana Lima trained twice a day for 3 weeks and abstained from solid food for 9 days to get into shape for the show! Adriana is one of my favourite Angels (her face is just perfection in the picture below) but a liquid diet and that much exercise doesn't sound very healthy. Miranda Kerr was chosen the wear the highlight of the collection, a $2.5m bra along with oyster shell 'wings'. Are you looking forward to this year's Victoria's Secret fashion show?
Regular readers will know that I'm drawn to edgy, distinctive jewels with a bit of attitude. I had a field day when I checked out the Wolf & Badger site and saw their jewellery section was full of spiky, dangerous looking jewels from some of my favourite jewellery designers including Maria Francesca Pepe and Elyona. As much as I love McQueen, I feel like skull detail on jewellery has been done and prefer simple spikes and angular designs to give a hard edge to outfits. There are lots of cheaper alternatives around on the high street from the likes of Topshop and ASOS, but none of the pieces below are extortionate and I like to treat jewellery as an investment. I tend to really fall for certain pieces and wear them to death, some pieces like my Arty almost become a signature so it works out pretty well on a cost-per-wear basis.
My favourite piece is the Elyona pentagonal ring for it's simplicity, it would make a bold statement on it's own or distinctive and quirky when layered with other pieces. What's your favourite piece?
Hurrah, my favourite Oasis store has reopened! The Argyle Street store is nestled between Oxford Circus and Liberty, the location is a little under the radar and perfect for avoiding the usual onslaught of tourists. The store has been closed for months for a complete makeover and the lovely folks at Oasis invited me to their offices for a wee celebration and a little dressing up before checking out the new store which is just around the corner from their offices.
Last week, I hopped and skipped over to Sloane Square to attend the launch party for Brora's exciting collaboration with LFW favourite Louise Gray. I've got to admit, it wasn't the most obvious of collaborations to me. It was hard to imagine how the avant-guarde colour, clashing and pattern would mix with the heritage cashmere brand so I was very intrigued to see the collection. I was pleased to see that the collection was very 'Louise', the bold colours, mixed textures and attention to detail inject a contemporary, modern twist into Brora's classic shapes and luxe cashmere. The Louise Gray for Brora collection includes a statement oversize jumper, a snood, wrist-warmers, a cropped cardigan and a beautiful patchwork jumper dress, with prices ranging from £80-£750.
Forever 21 has to be one of the UK's best loved US exports; the fast fashion, low price point strategy makes it an instant strong contender to the likes of H&M. The store opening on Oxford Street causes hysteria and the fluorescent pink bags swinging from every other person swishing down London's iconic shopping street are an ever present reminder of the popularity of the brand. It was interesting to have a sneak peek into their collection for spring/summer 2012, which was a riot of fun colours and sixties simplicity mixed with Japanese-inspired florals and Riviera-esque stripes.
The newest IT girl on the scene, singer Lana Del Ray looks absolutely fantastic on the cover of Wonderland magazine. Adorned in Miu Miu jewels, the cover really plays up her sixties vibe with the styling and pretty pastel shades.
Five Supers, Duran Duran and Harper's Bazaar unite for super project.
On the surface, it seems like a bit of a random mix but my gosh does it work. Harper's Bazaar approached Duran Duran about collaborating on a project and bought keyboardist Nick Rhodes' idea to life. Five of the original supermodels - Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Yasmin Le Bon, Cindy Crawford and Eva Herzigova - were reunited and played each member of the band in the video for their upcoming single "Girl Panic!" and for a super editorial in the December issue of Harper's Bazaar. What do you think?
Happy birthday, Ms Wintour.
One of the most influential people in fashion celebrated her *whisper* 62nd *ends whisper* birthday yesterday. Let's celebrate with some smiley Anna. Happy birthday!
Karlie Kloss gets her Victoria's Secret wings!
The most adorable model on the circuit is turned 18 earlier this year and finally made her Victoria's Secret debut. Next week sees her take to the infamous Victoria's Secret runway as their show is filmed on Wednesday. Rumour has it that veteran Victoria's Secret Angel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley won't be making the show though as she's booked for another job.
Behind the scenes at the TK Maxx Christmas advert.
Christmas seems to begin earlier and earlier every year, but seeing as the Christmas lights on Oxford Street were switched on and Starbucks red cups arrived this week, I think we can officially get excited! Here are some sneaky behind the scenes snaps of the TK Maxx Christmas advert.
I have just spied this utterly adorable campaign and just had to share. Apologies if you feel broody, it's probably better if you skip this post. I had no idea that Burberry did childrenswear but the British superbrand has been doing kids clothing for years. They opened their first childrenswear only store in Westbourne Grove in 2009 after opening the first stand-alone store in Hong Kong a year earlier. Bestsellers include trenchcoats and dresses which match the adult collections. I wouldn't want to dress my child as a mini me, but I have never wanted a child more than I do right now...I even think I like the children's clothes more than the collection I saw swishing down the catwalk back in February! What do you think?
