Georgina Goodman goes into administration

Today brings the sad news that high-end footwear company Georgina Goodman has gone into administration. Having established the company little over ten years ago, Georgina had been hailed by Manolo Blahnik himself as “the future of footwear” and “the only footwear designer worthy of note”. She was also profiled by Vogue as little as two years ago and had been nominated as accessories designer of the year twice by the BFC. Her distinctive and original shoes have slunk down the catwalks of Alexander McQueen and Erdem amongst others. With such promise, it’s hard to see where it all went wrong.

Although slightly under the radar, I’ve always thought that her company was doing well, quietly thriving actually. The reputation and quality spoke for themselves. This serves as a stark reminder that it is still actually really tough for retailers and it’s becoming increasingly important to be innovative and step up during challenging times. Despite a £4m investment just last year, it seems like this is the end for one of the most fabulous shoe companies in recent years.

The company is now having a huge sale with up to 40% off the last selling price at their former flagship store on Bond Street. Snap up a pair while you can.
