Brighton Fashion Week

A couple of weeks ago, Fiona and I headed down to Brighton to check out the  shows at Brighton Fashion Week. Now in it's second year, the event celebrates innovative design and has expanded from a weekend event to a full-on five week fashion extravaganza with a VIP launch party, fashion shows, stalls, street style and modelling competitions and pop-up events and installations across the city. We headed up on the Saturday to check out the ready-to-wear show. There were some great designers showcasing their design skills but two collections in particular really stood out to me - Eva Cammarata and Design OJT.

Eva Cammarata's tailored knitwear collection immediately commanded my attention. When I think knitwear, I tend to think of casual, slouchy knits and big comfy knits, the sort that make you want to snuggle up in front of an open fire with a mug of Earl Grey. Eva's collection featured fine knits and tailored shapes in bright, zingy colours contrasted with cool neutrals. My favourite piece was the all in one.

Olivia Tullett's collection, Design OJT, was also a favourite as there were two very different aesthetics derived from her theme of Heaven and Hell. The first part of her collection featured pretty taffetta crushed and draped, forming a pretty ballerina-esque look. In stark contrast, the second half featured corsetry and lingerie-inspired pieces for an edgy twist.
