Givenchy Couture Spring/Summer 2011

Sometimes people wonder what the point of couture is. Normally I refer them to Dior's breathtaking dresses and tell them that in comparison, 'normal' fashion looks mediocre. For me, couture is about creating something exquisitely beautiful, intricate works of art on fabric. If anyone asked me now, I'd refer them to the Givenchy SS11 collection, Riccardo Tisci's collection was much less gothic and dark than previous collections, the collection was almost romantic but with a harder edge. He incorporated elements inspired by robots and dancer Kazu Ohno with soft sheer organza and chiffon, ostrich feathers and hours upon hours of intricate embroidery work. The backs of the dresses were stunning. This is my favourite couture collection by far.
