One of the boys...

The androgynous look is by no means new. It comes around every season - oversize blazers, slouchy fit trousers, oversize crisp shirts. Every incantation reinvents and updates the look, making it relevant. This look goes back to the days of screen sirens Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich, who caused controversy as they dressed in trouser suits and bow ties.

The look is also featured in one of my favourite movies, Annie Hall. The wardrobe was partly designed by Ralph Lauren.

Cue one of Yves Saint Laurent's lasting legacies - Le Smoking. It's one of the most striking and powerful images in modern fashion and continues to inspire today. All of Saint Laurent's successors from Alber Elbaz and Tom Ford to Stefano Pilati have reinvented Le Smoking in every YSL collection.

And to modern are some delicious images from Jak & Jil, they were taken over the last couple of months to illustrate just how relevant this look is.
